Redfooted and yellowfooted tortoises are very common as far as pet ownership is concerned. These 2 types of tortoises share common needs and characteristics but also possess some differences as well.

Size - Redfooted tortoises are known to grow to an average size of 12 to 18 inches and an average weight of 13 to 15 lbs. Yellowfooted tortoises are known to get even bigger than the redfooted. Yellowfooted tortoises will get anywhere from 18 to 22 inches in length.

Environment - These tortoises are found in particularly hot and humid areas of the country such as Hawaii and Florida. This means that they will require a hot and humid environment in order to pursue a healthy and normal lifestyle. This doesn't necessarily mean you need to live in hot and humid regions but you will need to provide them with an environment that reaches an average temperature of 85 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity plays an important role as well. Humidity should reach an average of 65%. Yellowfooted tortoises require even higher levels of humidity, so say around an average humidity of 72%.
